E-Learning for Todays "Kids"
We indeed embark on a generation that has been born with ipods and mobile phones and these items deem to be disposable. Research today suggest the high portion of k-2 use a computer so kids today have already experiences in e-learning in an informal environments anywhere. As the theorist George Semens ideas on connectivism and ' knowing how to find the information is becoming more important than knowing the information' ( Resources CQU learning theories ). A high portion of kids today would have already been pushing buttons on keyboards and navigating their way through with less fear and apprehension than generations before us. As human beings have the tendency to " fear what we do not know or understand", we now have a generation that have been learning informally by engaging in experiences online, so e-learning can create a positive learning environment today and should be embraced.

Hey Tanya,
ReplyDeleteWhat you have stated about the youth of today and the amount they know about todays technology is correct. They are able to operate the gadgets better than most adults. This is a good reason for todays learning managers to become adept in the use of the same technology to be able to engage them and get thier best learning from them. This idea of us learning to correctly use the tools and technology is something that will benefit us once we are out in the classrooms. It will also mean the students will be learning using tools which are relevant and up to date for the times. People are always wanting the latest and the best so why would you use antiqated teaching methods to teach students in school when outside of school they are using equipment far more sophisticated and challenging.
Until Next Time
Most youth of today are tech savy when it comes to using and relying on technology, so it make s sense that learning mangers are familiar with what tools are around. I agree with Quinnie in why use antiquated tools when there is far more sophisticated equipment out there. Though I dont believe that the old fashioned pen and paper will be phased out anytime soon. Do you feel that some "old fashioned" methods will still be around for some time to come??
